Governor Yahaya of Gombe State to begin implementation of new national minimum wage, effective October, 2024.

The Gombe State government has announced its commitment to implement the new national minimum wage for state and local government workers, effective October 2024. This decision was confirmed during a meeting between government representatives and the National Labour Congress (NLC).
The announcement was made by Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau, Ph.D, who chairs the Standing Committee on the Negotiation of the National Minimum Wage.Speaking at a press briefing held in his office's conference hall, Jatau conveyed the approval from Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
"We have met and discussed with the NLC, and the governor is determined to implement the new national minimum wage for both state and local government workers effective this month of October," Jatau stated.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Governor directed the formation of a technical committee to finalise the details surrounding the implementation of the wage increase, ensuring that all the nitty gritty are addressed within a period of 72 hours.
According to the deputy governor the development marks a significant step in addressing the economic needs of workers in Gombe State and reflects the government's commitment to improving the welfare of its employees.
He remarked " this briefing is to address the press and by implication the general public, particularly the salary earners- Civil Servants on the decision taken by the negotiation committee. On the (70, 000) Seventy Thousand minimum wage which include local government workers. You will recall that the federal government announced a new minimum wage. We needed a guideline on how to pay. The lag lag between government policy and the receipt of the instrument of implementation of policy. Immediately we receive the guideline the Governor directed that the standing committee is to begin the negotiation".
" The standing committee is the highest because it has the Deputy Governor as the chairman because the governor is very much committed to the welfare of workers in the state", he added.
The Chairman, Gombe chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Alh. Yusuf Aish Bello assured the civil servants in the state that nothing less than the seventy thousand minimum wage will be paid to the workers of Gombe State.
He said the next line of action is the awaiting of the technical committee whose report will be submitted in three days time for final approval of payment to the workers.
Those in attendance include, the Head of Civil Service, Alh Ahmed Kasimu Abdullahi, Commissioner of Finance, Alh. Mohammed Gambo Magaji, the State Accountant General, Alh.Aliyu Yuguda and the State Auditor General Mohammed Buba Gombe among others.

Ya ci gaba da cewa, “wannan taron tattaunawa shi ne don yin jawabi ga manema labarai da kuma yin tsokaci ga jama’a, musamman masu karbar albashi – ma’aikatan gwamnati kan shawarar da kwamitin sulhu ya dauka. Akan mafi karancin albashi (70,000) dubu saba’in da suka hada da ma’aikatan kananan hukumomi. Za ku tuna cewa gwamnatin tarayya ta sanar da sabon mafi karancin albashin ma'aikata kwamitin zai fara tattaunawa".
Ya kara da cewa "Kwamitin rikon shi ne mafi kololuwa domin ita ce ke da Mataimakin Gwamna a matsayin shugaba saboda Gwamnan ya jajirce sosai wajen kyautata jin dadin ma'aikata a jihar".
Shugaban kungiyar kwadago ta Najeriya reshen Gombe Alh. Yusuf Aish Bello ya tabbatar wa ma’aikatan jihar cewa babu wani abu da zai gaza biyan mafi karancin albashi na dubu saba’in ga ma’aikatan jihar Gombe.
Ya ce mataki na gaba shi ne jiran kwamitin kwararru wanda za a mika rahotonsa nan da kwanaki uku domin amincewar karshe na biyan ma’aikatan.
Wadanda suka hallarci taron sun hada da, shugaban ma’aikatan gwamnati, Alh Ahmed Kasimu Abdullahi, kwamishinan kudi, Alh. Mohammed Gambo Magaji, Akanta Janar na Jiha, Alh.Aliyu Yuguda da Aditor Janar Mohammed Buba Gombe da dai sauransu.
