 BRIEF HISTORY OF UTHMAN BIN FODIO Uthman don Fodio (1755-1816) was a Moslem teacher and theologian. One of the principal reformers of Islam in Hausaland in Northern Nigeria, he founded an Islamic empire at the beginning of the 19th century. Uthman don Fodio whose complete name was Uthman ibn Muhammad ibn Fudi, was commonly known simply as Shehu, the Hausa word for sheikh. He was born in the Hausa state of Gobir, the son of a pious Fulani member of the Qadiriyya Moslem brotherhood. Uthman and his brother Abdullahi received a thorough education in Islamic theology, Arabic, and Moslem law, and by 1774 he began his career as an itinerant preacher and teacher. During these years Uthman wandered throughout Hausaland, gaining adherents and preaching reform in the practice of Islam. His followers, who were later to form the vanguard of his fighting forces, came from all parts of the central Sudan.  QUEEN AMINA OF ZAZZAU Amina of Zaria Amina of Zaria (1533-1610?), commonly known as the warrior queen, expanded the territory of the Hausa people of north Africa to the largest borders in history. More than 400 years later, the legend of her persona became the model for a television series about a fictional warrior princess, called Xena. Amina was the warrior queen of Zazzau (now Zaria). She is known also as Amina Sarauniya Zazzau. She lived approximately 200 years prior to the establishment of the Sokoto-Caliphate federation that governed Nigeria during the period of British colonial rule following the Islamic jahad (holy war) that overtook the region in the nineteenth century. According to most accounts, Queen Amina ruled for 34 years at the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. According to the General Manager (GM) of the Gombe State Environmental Sanitation and Protection Agency (GOSEPA) Muhammad Ahmad Kumo, INEX Cleaning Limited had a two years contract agreement with the previous government in the state which elapsed in June 2021 and the contract was renewed for another nine months by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya. He explained that the nine months extension ended in March 2022 and that the state government called for fresh bidding for the contract of cleaning services in the Gombe metropolis.   Abuja Imam suspended over ‘anti- Buhari’ sermon  The Apo legislative quarters mosque committee in Abuja has suspended the mosque’s Chief Imam, Shiekh Nuru Khalid, for a sermon he delivered on Friday. Sheikh Khalid chastised the government in his sermon for failing to control the country’s escalating insecurity and killings.
